Field Applications Engineer – Hardware Design (Automotive Sector)

On behalf of our client, an international leader in high-speed optical communication solutions, we are seeking an experienced Field Applications Engineer with a strong background in hardware design to support their growing automotive portfolio.
This is a highly collaborative, customer-facing engineering role that bridges R&D, marketing, and client support—ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a service-oriented mindset.
Role Overview
As a key member of the automotive business unit, you will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle—from pre-sales consultation and demonstrations to post-sales troubleshooting and field validation. Working closely with both internal teams and global customers, you will ensure the successful deployment and integration of advanced communication solutions for in-vehicle networks.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Support
- Deliver expert technical guidance on automotive-focused products, supporting global design-in activities both remotely and on-site.
- Develop technical documentation, including block diagrams and schematics, to ensure solution clarity and alignment with project requirements.
- Conduct in-house and customer-site product demonstrations to support the sales process.
- Represent the company at trade fairs, external trainings, and internal technical sessions in collaboration with the marketing team.
- Maintain and update the showroom environment to support successful customer engagements.
Post-Sales Support
- Provide remote support and troubleshooting via phone and email, logging and escalating issues where necessary.
- Reproduce and resolve reported issues through in-house testing and collaboration with R&D and support teams.
- Deliver on-site technical services, including diagnostics and documentation, for complex or strategic customer projects.
Product Management Support
- Contribute ideas for new products or feature improvements based on market feedback and technical observations.
- Maintain and enrich internal knowledge bases with practical use cases, ECU design notes, and troubleshooting insights.
- Participate in field testing of newly developed products, ensuring feedback loops with internal development teams.
- Support the preparation of training materials and product presentations.
- Stay current with developments in automotive communication standards and network technologies.
Qualifications
- Education: BSc or MSc in Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in the electronics or automotive sector, preferably involving integrated circuits or communication technologies.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with communication transceivers, Ethernet at the PHY layer, and optical communication systems is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong customer orientation, accountability, teamwork, and clear communication. Ability to work autonomously and deliver results under minimal supervision.
- Languages: Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally (up to 25%).
