Field Applications Engineer – Hardware Design (Automotive Sector)

📍 Madrid, Spain | Hybrid | Full-Time | Permanent

On behalf of our client, an international leader in high-speed optical communication solutions, we are seeking an experienced Field Applications Engineer with a strong background in hardware design to support their growing automotive portfolio.

This is a highly collaborative, customer-facing engineering role that bridges R&D, marketing, and client support—ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a service-oriented mindset.

Role Overview

As a key member of the automotive business unit, you will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle—from pre-sales consultation and demonstrations to post-sales troubleshooting and field validation. Working closely with both internal teams and global customers, you will ensure the successful deployment and integration of advanced communication solutions for in-vehicle networks.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Sales Support

  • Deliver expert technical guidance on automotive-focused products, supporting global design-in activities both remotely and on-site.
  • Develop technical documentation, including block diagrams and schematics, to ensure solution clarity and alignment with project requirements.
  • Conduct in-house and customer-site product demonstrations to support the sales process.
  • Represent the company at trade fairs, external trainings, and internal technical sessions in collaboration with the marketing team.
  • Maintain and update the showroom environment to support successful customer engagements.

Post-Sales Support

  • Provide remote support and troubleshooting via phone and email, logging and escalating issues where necessary.
  • Reproduce and resolve reported issues through in-house testing and collaboration with R&D and support teams.
  • Deliver on-site technical services, including diagnostics and documentation, for complex or strategic customer projects.

Product Management Support

  • Contribute ideas for new products or feature improvements based on market feedback and technical observations.
  • Maintain and enrich internal knowledge bases with practical use cases, ECU design notes, and troubleshooting insights.
  • Participate in field testing of newly developed products, ensuring feedback loops with internal development teams.
  • Support the preparation of training materials and product presentations.
  • Stay current with developments in automotive communication standards and network technologies.

Qualifications

  • Education: BSc or MSc in Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in the electronics or automotive sector, preferably involving integrated circuits or communication technologies.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with communication transceivers, Ethernet at the PHY layer, and optical communication systems is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong customer orientation, accountability, teamwork, and clear communication. Ability to work autonomously and deliver results under minimal supervision.
  • Languages: Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally (up to 25%).

What’s Offered

  • Full-time, permanent position based in Madrid (Tres Cantos) with a hybrid work model.
  • Flexible working hours, including reduced hours on Fridays and during summer months.
  • Comprehensive benefits including private medical insurance (employee covered, family discounts available), language classes (English/Spanish), and meal vouchers.
  • Access to structured training and development programs.
  • Inclusive and collaborative international work environment with flat hierarchies.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable, forward-thinking organization at the forefront of in-vehicle networking technology. If you are ready to contribute your expertise to impactful automotive innovation, we encourage you to apply.
