PIC Design Engineer
Location: Near Suffolk, UK
Salary Range: High competitive
Job Summary:
•You will be part of the Design Team, and support NPI development and research projects on III-V optical chip components.
•The role would include aspects of optoelectronic device and RF design, waveguide modelling and mask design, as well as early characterisation and developing test methodology for next generation devices
•You will be working in close cooperation with a wide team of experts in design, fabrication and testing of photonic chips and support transfer research and technology projects to NPI phase and production.
•You will have professional or academic experience in III-V semiconductor physics
Key Responsibilities:
•Design and/or contribute to the development of Photonic integrated circuits and discrete active photonic III-V components
•Optoelectronic device design, in particular device mask design and waveguide/optical modelling.
•Engage with Design and Fabrication team to discuss and analyse specifications and define mask set requirements and PDKs; automate the implementation of design rules.
•Support external collaborative projects with Academic and Industrial institutions
•Explore and analyse new directions for future applications of PIC technology
•DC and RF verification of early stage development devices and prepare and publish technical reports of finding/proposed improvements
Experience
•PhD in a relevant semiconductor/material or device design topic;
•Knowledge of III-V optoelectronic device physics
•Experience in Mask design/PDKs, TCAD software, Python/Nazca/Klayout or Equivalent
•Experience of commercial optical waveguide software packages
•Excellent data analysis and report writing skills.
Desired:
•+3 years in relevant field/photonics field in industry or academia developing photonic devices.
•Electromagnetic simulations in FDTD, FEM, Mode solvers, multi-physics modules (e.g. COMSOL, VPI, etc), k*p modelling, semiconductor laser simulations.
•Some hands-on experience with characterisation and Design for Test methodologies would be an advantage.
•Optical communication system understanding for DC, Metro and Longhaul links.
•Previous experience in Telecommunications or Semiconductor industry, or understanding of the roadmap and trends of Optical product industries.
•Familiarity with epitaxy and fabricating process of III-V optoelectronic devices.
