W3C Standards Delegate

We are looking for a passionate web standards technologist to: contribute to the evolution of W3C and other relevant web standards; and to support content authors and the development community in building on those standards.
Role and Responsibilities
The Web Standards Team at Research UK drives Web strategy by:
• Leading standardisation activities in W3C and actively contributing to future web standards.
• Engaging with the web development community to promote the Internet browser, web standards and capture future market requirements for browsers and the web.
• Providing strategic input to development team to guide future development of the Internet browser and contributions to Chromium.
Role and Responsibilities
• Represent and actively participate in W3C standards activities.
• Contribute to the future direction of web standardisation in line with browser and product roadmaps.
• Guide product strategy to align with the evolution of web standards.
• Engage with the developer community through ‘blog posts, presentations at conferences, social media, and the production of developer documentation, to advocate for the uptake of web standards and Web Platform features.
• Develop prototypes to guide the development of the APIs, and demos using the APIs (with internal and external partners).
Skills and Qualifications
Essential skills are:
• BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, Mathematics, Engineering or any related discipline.
• Background in web development and good understanding of existing and emerging web standards – particularly those from W3C.
• Experience in JavaScipt, HTML, Web APIs, the development toolchain and related technologies.
• Adept problem-solver, able to create high-quality solutions that meet constraints and required timeframes.
• An effective communicator able to present clearly and engagingly to diverse audiences at external events and conferences.
• Willingness to travel internationally to support business needs.
Desirable skills include:
• Experience of working in W3C standards/specification groups.
• An understanding of emerging privacy standardisation efforts, and browsers’ privacy-preserving features.
• Experience of writing technical blogs, contributing to podcasts and other social media communications.
• Knowledge of the mobile device and browser market.
• Familiarity with Android platform.
• Public speaking experience.
• Other languages in addition to fluent English, written and spoken.
